Lin was in his second year at NTU’s business school when he received the life-altering news in May 2018. Doctors diagnosed him with osteosarcoma, a rare type of bone cancer that affects only 3.6 out of every million teenagers each year. The diagnosis revealed a tumor located under his left jawbone, a shocking statistic for a young man with so much potential.
Initially, Lin chose to keep his condition a secret, wanting to shield his family from worry. His father, 75, shared that Lin was a dedicated student who worked closely with doctors throughout his treatment. He started chemotherapy right after his diagnosis and underwent surgery on his lower jaw.

Despite the grueling treatment, which lasted until May 2019, Lin remained committed to his passion for basketball, playing daily even while battling pain. His determination was evident during a follow-up visit in June 2020, where doctors discovered that the cancer had progressed. His mother recounted how Lin returned to school just three days after surgery, eager to prepare for his exams.
Lin’s perseverance paid off; he graduated with honors from NTU. His mother, 72, expressed pride in her son’s strength, noting that he aspired to help other cancer patients.

After working as an investment consultant for only four months, Lin received the heartbreaking news that his cancer had returned. Despite being in the terminal stage, he refused to give up.
