SAF Welcomes RADM Aaron Beng to the new Chief of Defence Force

New Leadership at the Helm of Singapore’s Defence Forces

At a recent Change of Command Parade held at the SAFTI Military Institute, RADM Aaron Beng Yao Cheng officially took over as the new Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) on March 24. This significant event saw the outgoing CDF, Lieutenant General Melvyn Ong Si Kiat, passing the command symbol to RADM Beng, marking a new chapter for Singapore’s military leadership.

A Legacy of Service and Commitment

RADM Beng has a rich history with the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF). He first joined as the chief naval commander in 1972, making him one of the founding figures of the SAF. Over the years, he has held various important roles, including Commanding Officer of the Frigate Squadron and Director of the Defence Policy Office. Most recently, he served as the Chief of Navy (CNV), where he played a crucial role in ensuring the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) was prepared to safeguard our maritime sovereignty, especially during the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Farewell to a Respected Leader

The parade also served as a farewell to LG Ong, who has been at the helm since March 23, 2018. Under his leadership, the SAF successfully managed several high-profile security operations, including the historic DPRK–US Singapore Summit and the 33rd ASEAN Summit. His contributions have significantly shaped Singapore’s defence landscape.

Building Confidence in Our Defence Forces

This leadership transition is reassuring for Singaporeans. It underscores that our army is in capable hands, ready to protect our nation. With RADM Beng at the forefront, Singaporeans can feel more confident about the SAF’s readiness to respond to any potential threats.

Why This Matters to Singaporeans

The appointment of RADM Beng helps alleviate any concerns about our army’s ability to defend Singapore. It highlights the rigorous training and preparedness of our forces, fostering a sense of national pride and security.

In a world where uncertainty can often lead to anxiety, knowing that our defence forces are led by experienced and dedicated leaders like RADM Beng instills confidence in our collective safety.
