Jogger’s Close Encounter with Stray Dogs in Pasir Ris Park
On a quiet Saturday night, a jogger found himself in a heart-pounding chase with a pack of stray dogs at Pasir Ris Drive 3. This unexpected turn of events was captured in a viral TikTok video by user Garygaryocp, sparking conversations online about safety and stray animals in our parks.
The Chase Unfolds
The video, filmed around 10.40 pm, shows the jogger sprinting along a peaceful path when suddenly, a group of stray dogs began barking and sprinting after him. As the jogger picked up his pace, the five dogs followed closely behind, creating a scene that was both alarming and, for some viewers, amusing. The clip ends abruptly as the jogger disappears from view, still shouting while the dogs continue their pursuit.
In a follow-up post on November 6, Gary shared that the jogger eventually reached safety but not without sustaining some cuts and scrapes. “I fell and got cuts on my hand, elbow, and knees. Luckily, after I fell, the dogs left,” the jogger recounted.
Stray Dogs: A Common Sight
Speaking to AsiaOne, the jogger mentioned that stray dogs are often seen in the area, though they don’t always linger in the same spots. Gary noted that this isn’t the first time these dogs have chased someone, raising concerns about their potential threat to children and the elderly. In fact, cyclists have previously reported similar encounters with stray dogs at Lorong Halus in Pasir Ris back in 2021.
While some netizens found humour in the jogger’s speed, others suggested that he should have stood his ground instead of running away.
Staying Safe Around Stray Dogs
The Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS) advises that stray dogs often roam in groups while searching for food and shelter. Although most stray dogs tend to avoid humans, some may approach out of curiosity. If you encounter a stray dog, it’s important to remain calm and avoid running, as this may trigger a chase. Instead, fold your arms in front of you and walk slowly in the opposite direction.

A Lesson Learned
This incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictability of wildlife in urban areas. While the jogger’s experience was frightening, it also highlights the importance of understanding how to react in such situations. Staying calm can make all the difference.
As we enjoy our parks and outdoor spaces, let’s remember to be aware of our surroundings and the local wildlife. After all, safety first!
