Delivery Rider Caught on CCTV: A Shocking Food Spillage Incident

Have you ever had a delivery gone wrong? Imagine ordering your favourite dish, only to discover that the delivery rider tried to salvage spilled food in the most unhygienic way possible. That’s exactly what happened to one homeowner in Singapore, and it’s left many of us questioning the standards of food delivery services.

The Incident Unfolds

Last Wednesday (Nov 1) at around 11.45am, Wendy, a resident along Somme Road in Jalan Besar, noticed soup stains on her staircase. Curious, she checked her CCTV footage and was shocked by what she saw. A delivery rider was filmed pouring spilled soup back into a container after his delivery went awry.

Wendy described the act as “damn unhygienic and super disgusting lah.” She raised an important question: was it the rider’s fault or the restaurant’s? This incident has made her rethink food delivery altogether, leading her to stop ordering from these platforms over a year ago due to similar experiences.

Who is Responsible for Spilled Food?

When food spills during delivery, who bears the cost? According to a report by CNA, food delivery companies typically cover the cost of spilled food. Grab representatives mentioned that delivery partners only face penalties if they consistently mishandle orders. Meanwhile, Foodpanda riders are not penalised for spills if customers seek refunds.

Wendy believes that the Singapore Food Agency should enforce stricter regulations, such as requiring sealed food boxes. This way, customers can be assured that their food hasn’t been tampered with.

What Happens Next?

In cases like this, delivery riders are advised to contact their Rider Support team for guidance on how to handle the situation and arrange for redelivery if necessary. A representative from Foodpanda stated that warnings or even suspensions could be issued for misconduct.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time a delivery rider has been caught in a compromising situation. Recently, a Grab rider was filmed drinking a customer’s iced Milo, raising further concerns about food safety and delivery standards.

What Do You Think?

This incident raises a critical question: what is an appropriate punishment for the delivery rider involved? Should there be fines or even harsher penalties? As consumers, we deserve to feel safe and confident in the food we order.

Let us know your thoughts on this matter. How can we ensure better practices in food delivery services?
