“Tanglin Crispy Curry Puff Hawker’s Fiery Encounter: Confrontation with Elderly Man Sparks Intrigue”

Scuffle at Hong Lim Market: Curry Puff Hawker and Elderly Man Clash

A heated confrontation unfolded at Hong Lim Market and Food Centre recently, involving a curry puff hawker and an elderly man. Peter Ng, the hawker, suspected the elderly gentleman of secretly filming his stall, leading to a surprising turn of events.

Suspicion Breeds Conflict

Ng noticed the elderly man loitering around his stall, repeatedly taking videos with his phone. This wasn’t the first time the man had been seen hanging around, raising Ng’s suspicions. Just two weeks prior, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) had issued Ng a warning for not adhering to mask and spit guard regulations, essential for food safety.

Feeling uneasy, Ng confronted the elderly man, asking to check his phone gallery for the videos. However, the man refused, sparking a scuffle between them. Ng’s fiancée jumped in to help, but both ended up sustaining injuries during the altercation. The police were called, and one person was sent to Singapore General Hospital by the Singapore Civil Defence Force.

Family Ties and Rivalry

Ng believes there’s more to the story. He suspects the elderly man is working with his younger brother, Ray Ng, who operates a rival curry puff stall nearby. The brothers had a falling out in May 2022, which led to a split in their business. Ng often spots the elderly man with his younger brother and second sister, fueling his suspicions.

Ray Ng, however, denies any wrongdoing, claiming he never instructed anyone to secretly record his brother’s stall. His second sister added that the elderly man, who is 79 years old, only became acquainted with their family this year.

Lessons Learned: The Need for Professionalism

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of professionalism and conflict resolution in the hawker community. It’s crucial for stall owners to communicate effectively and work together to create a harmonious environment for everyone involved.

Why is maintaining professionalism so vital in situations like this? It helps prevent misunderstandings and promotes a sense of community among hawkers. After all, we all want to enjoy our delicious local food without drama!
