Goh Kai Yeow, just 21 years old, was on the brink of starting his career. He was about to complete his National Service when a lorry collided with his motorcycle near Lim Chu Kang cemetery on April 15, 2022. His father, aged 47, recalled the moment he received the devastating news. “I was shattered when I got that call,” he shared in an interview with Shin Min Daily News.
Before the accident, Goh had plans to work as a salesman at his uncle’s company, having signed the contract just months prior. The lorry driver, Jumade Dafir, was sentenced to three weeks in jail and received an eight-year driving ban for his actions.
A Mother’s Grief
The loss has deeply affected Goh’s mother as well. At home, she often finds herself in tears, reminded that no one calls her ‘ah ma’ anymore. After his parents separated in 2018, Goh moved in with his grandparents to care for them, showing his deep sense of responsibility and love for family.

In a touching tribute to his son, Goh’s father decided to invest his life savings into opening a bar, fulfilling a dream they had discussed together. “He always loved the place where I worked as a bartender along Beach Road and hoped to open a bar one day,” he reminisced.
