Maid’s Shocking Act: Throwing Stolen $10k Downstairs for Friend – Lands Her in Jail

Domestic Helper Sentenced for Stealing from Elderly Employer

In a shocking turn of events, a domestic helper named Kiswanti has been sentenced to six months in prison for stealing from her 92-year-old employer. This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of trust and integrity in our relationships.

How It All Happened

Kiswanti, who had been working for her employer since 2018, was primarily responsible for cleaning and cooking. However, things took a dark turn when her employer began using a wheelchair in November 2022. He asked Kiswanti to assist him with withdrawing money, trusting her to help him during this vulnerable time.

Over the next few months, Kiswanti exploited this trust. She helped her employer withdraw cash at an ATM near Bedok Reservoir Road at least 25 times. Each time, she would push the wheelchair away from the ATM before returning to access more funds from the account. In total, she managed to steal $11,700 over four months.

Deceptive Tactics

Kiswanti didn’t stop there. During her employer’s hospital stays, she took advantage of the situation by stealing his ATM card from his drawer to make additional withdrawals. To hide her actions, she would stash the stolen cash in a plastic bag, throw it out of the kitchen window, and have a friend, Mi Min, send the money back to Indonesia. Mi Min even took photos of the remittance receipts to confirm the transactions.

When questioned, Kiswanti claimed she had lost contact with Mi Min, who had supposedly returned to Indonesia. However, her deceit was uncovered by her employer’s son-in-law, leading to her arrest.

Facing the Consequences

After confessing to her crimes, Kiswanti returned about $1,090 to the family, while $660 was seized from her. During a video call while in custody, she pleaded for leniency, expressing her regret and longing to see her parents in Indonesia before it was too late. She acknowledged her mistakes and apologised to her former employer, hoping for forgiveness.

Lessons Learned

This incident highlights the critical importance of trust in relationships, especially when caring for vulnerable individuals. It’s a wake-up call for everyone to reflect on their values and actions.
