Singaporean Couple’s Car Broken Into at KSL Hotel: Cash and Clothes Stolen

Singaporean Couple Falls Victim to Car Theft in Johor Bahru

A recent trip to Johor Bahru (JB) turned sour for a Singaporean couple when they discovered their car had been ransacked. Zhong, 32, shared that his aunt and uncle drove to JB last Thursday (April 4) for a visit and stayed at the well-known KSL Hotel & Resort. After checking out the next morning, they were shocked to find their car’s trunk and front door wide open.

Missing Cash and Clothes

Inside the vehicle, Zhong noticed that hundreds of dollars in cash and some newly bought clothes were gone. The couple quickly informed the hotel staff about the theft and were advised to report the incident to the Malaysian police. However, the hotel also mentioned that the car park is managed by KSL City Mall, directing them to seek help from the mall’s management.

Despite multiple attempts to contact the mall’s management, they received no response. When they returned to the car park to request CCTV footage from security, they were dismayed to learn that there were no cameras where they had parked. Zhong pointed out that only a few cameras were present in the entire car park, none of which captured the theft.

Concerns Over Security

Zhong expressed frustration, noting that a security guard is supposed to patrol the mall and car park between 1 am and 3 am. He questioned why the guard did not notice the break-in. Following this incident, Zhong and his family have decided to avoid staying at KSL Hotel & Resort in the future. He hopes this incident serves as a wake-up call for other tourists traveling to Malaysia to remain vigilant.

Another Incident at the Ramadan Bazaar

The issue of car theft in JB isn’t isolated. Another alarming incident occurred at a Ramadan bazaar, where multiple burglaries involving Singapore-registered cars have been reported. Siti Muhaini shared a video on TikTok last week showing the smashed windows of a rental car parked near a bazaar in the Pandan district of JB. She recounted that her family was robbed at Pasar Pandan, losing a few items but thankfully remaining safe.

In response to comments, Siti revealed that the burglary happened between 12 am and 3 am on April 3, resulting in the theft of a jacket, fan, and power bank. The news source has reached out to Siti for more details.

Staying Safe While Traveling

These incidents highlight the importance of safety and security while traveling. Here are some practical tips for Singaporeans to enhance their safety measures when visiting areas with a history of burglaries:

  • Secure your belongings: Keep valuables like wallets, phones, and passports hidden and secure. Consider using anti-theft bags or pouches.
  • Stay in well-lit areas: When walking, especially at night, opt for well-lit paths and avoid poorly lit or isolated spots.
  • Avoid isolated places: Stick to busy and populated areas, especially in unfamiliar locations.
  • Be aware of your surroundings: Stay alert and trust your instincts. If something feels off, remove yourself from the situation.
  • Know local emergency contacts: Familiarize yourself with local emergency numbers and resources for travelers.

By following these tips, you can better protect yourself and enjoy a more secure travel experience. Remember, being proactive about safety not only helps you but also contributes to a more enjoyable trip for everyone.
