Driver Claims Hit-and-Run After Collision on PIE
A recent incident on the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) has sparked concern among road users, as three individuals allegedly fled the scene after causing a collision. The driver of the car that was rear-ended, Mr. Yeo, is now seeking help to identify the trio who left the scene without exchanging details.
What Happened on the PIE?
On the morning of June 14, Mr. Yeo was driving towards Tuas when a dark blue car collided with his silver vehicle. Eyewitnesses reported seeing two men and a woman exiting the blue car shortly after the crash. One man was spotted holding a pink paper bag, while another appeared to be taking photos of the accident.
Mr. Yeo expressed his frustration, stating, “They didn’t even stop to share their contact information. I saw them with pink bags, but later, they crossed the expressway without them.” He also noted that he couldn’t find any details about the blue car’s license plate on the One Motoring portal, despite sharing a screenshot of his search.
Outstanding Fines and Unusual Behaviour
It was later discovered that the blue car had two outstanding fines amounting to $140 for traffic violations issued by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) just days before the accident. Mr. Yeo, who was on his way to a medical appointment, described the behaviour of the three individuals as odd. “I was too shocked to react properly at that moment,” he said.
After the crash, he noticed them gathering their belongings from the car, but it was only after exchanging contact details with other drivers that he realised they had disappeared. One of the other drivers mentioned seeing them walking along the expressway shoulder and crossing to the other side.
Seeking Dashcam Footage
In a bid to gather more information, Mr. Yeo took to Facebook, appealing for dashcam footage from passing vehicles. “It would really help the police identify them,” he commented, hoping to provide the footage to the investigating officer.
The police were alerted to the accident involving a taxi and four cars on the PIE towards Jurong around 10:55 am, but fortunately, no injuries were reported. Upon arrival, they found one of the cars abandoned at the scene, which had a deregistered vehicle registration number. Investigations are ongoing.
