Hougang Durian Stall’s Generous Offer: $5 Musang King for Elderly and Low-Income Customers

Great News for Durian Lovers: Special Discounts for Seniors and Low-Income Customers!

Are you a fan of the king of fruits? If you’re in Hougang, you’re in for a treat! A durian stall is rolling out an amazing promotion just for seniors and lower-income customers.

Discounted Musang King Durians

Lexus Durian King, located at 1001 Upper Serangoon Road, has announced that they’re selling Musang King durians for just $5 each! This special price is available for Pioneer Generation customers and holders of CHAS (Community Health Assist Scheme) cards. All you need to do is show your card at the stall. Each person can buy up to two durians, making it easier for more people to enjoy this delicious fruit.

Stella Soh, the co-director of the stall, mentioned, “Inflation is tough on everyone. We want to make durians accessible to those who might not be able to afford them.” Since the promotion started, they’ve sold over five tonnes of durians, and many seniors have come to take advantage of this fantastic offer.

More Discounts for Everyone

But that’s not all! If you hold a Pioneer Generation or blue CHAS card, you can also enjoy a 20% discount on premium durians, plus a complimentary coconut drink. For those with Merdeka Generation, green, or orange CHAS cards, there’s a 10% discount on any purchase.

Regular customer Xu Yuantian shared that he usually pays between $10 to $20 for 1kg of Musang King durian. This time, he took advantage of the discount and bought 11 durians! Another customer, Xie Jiawei, found out about the promotion on social media and praised the special price for the elderly.

Quality Durians from Pahang

The stall’s manager, Qiu Xuxian, revealed that their Musang King durians are imported from Pahang, Malaysia, where they typically cost between $18 to $20 per kilogram. To keep up with the high demand during this promotion, the stall plans to import two to three tonnes of durians daily throughout the durian season from June to August.

Understanding the Durian Boom

Interestingly, the durian industry is expecting a surplus this year due to a heatwave in Malaysia. The warmer temperatures create ideal conditions for durian trees to thrive, resulting in fruits with richer aroma and flavor. Datuk Paul Mak, managing director of Brighhill Synergy, explains that the heat helps trees absorb more nutrients, enhancing the quality of the fruit.

Promoting Inclusivity and Sustainability

This initiative is a fantastic way to allow seniors and lower-income customers to enjoy premium Musang King durians at a budget-friendly price. However, it’s essential to consider the sustainability of such promotions. Here are some questions to ponder:

1. How are the durians sourced, and are the farmers receiving fair compensation?
2. Is there a limit on the number of durians each person can buy to prevent wastage?
3. Are there any educational initiatives to promote responsible consumption and reduce food waste?
4. How can this promotion be made more accessible to a wider range of customers, including those with dietary restrictions?

By addressing these questions, the promotion can not only benefit seniors and lower-income customers but also contribute to a more sustainable and inclusive durian industry.
