Wu Shiyan, a 45-year-old resident, shared her frustration with the situation. Despite her warnings to those sifting through the items to respect the cleaners’ work, her advice fell on deaf ears. The aftermath? Four town council cleaners had to work overtime, staying as late as 9 pm for three consecutive days to clear the mess. On Thursday alone, one cleaner reported clearing three barrels filled with DVDs and audio equipment. The next day, another three barrels were cleared, this time containing glass and ceramic fragments. By Saturday, while there was some improvement, two barrels still needed to be cleared.
More Rubbish, More Problems
As if that wasn’t enough, another resident, surnamed Cui, pointed out a pile of cardboard boxes and electrical appliances left near the lift lobby. Fortunately, this rubbish was completely cleared by Saturday. However, the refuse chutes in the block were also clogged with debris, causing the same cleaners to tackle that issue. One cleaner noted that the chutes were so full that their usual methods couldn’t keep up.
Cui even reported hearing what sounded like glass bottles and other fragile items being tossed down the chute late last Friday evening. An upset resident was heard shouting, “Stop throwing!” from a window, highlighting the growing frustration among the community.

This situation arose after the estate recently underwent the Home Improvement Programme, prompting some residents to declutter. In response to the incidents, a spokesperson from the Pasir Ris – Punggol Town Council acknowledged the problem and assured that immediate arrangements were made to clear the items dumped in common areas. They also reminded residents about the town council’s bulky refuse removal service, encouraging them to request assistance through the website or hotline.
Notices were issued to residents, advising them on the proper disposal of bulky refuse and items that could cause noise issues if thrown down the Central Refuse Chute (CRC). A similar advisory was also displayed near the CRC.
