Tragic Twist: Good Samaritan Fatally Injured While Assisting in SLE Accident

Tragic Accident on Seletar Expressway: A Reminder of Road Safety

A heartbreaking incident unfolded on the Seletar Expressway (SLE) when a man lost his life while trying to assist an injured motorist. This tragic event occurred around 2am on Sunday, July 28, as reported by local news sources. The 35-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).

What Happened?

According to Zhang, a private hire driver, he was making his way home to Yishun when a motorcycle collided with the rear door of his car. The 43-year-old described how the motorcyclist was attempting to change lanes when the accident occurred. Without hesitation, Zhang exited his vehicle to offer help.

Witnessing the chaos, the deceased driver also stopped his car to assist. Zhang recalled that another motorcyclist helped him move the injured rider to safety. Just moments later, a loud crash echoed through the night. The man who had just stepped out of his car was struck by another vehicle and fell onto the rightmost lane.

A Good Samaritan’s Fate

In that moment, Zhang was focused on the injured motorcyclist and did not see how the second accident happened. He expressed his sorrow, saying, “He was a Good Samaritan and a hero. It’s tragic that he tried to help but faced such a fate.”

Zhang hopes that the public learns about this selfless act but also stresses the importance of safety. “Safety comes first,” he reiterated. Reports indicate that there was a 30-year-old woman in the deceased driver’s car, who broke down in tears when asked to identify the body.

Police Investigation

The police confirmed that they were alerted to an accident involving two cars and a motorcycle on SLE towards BKE around 2am. Apart from the deceased driver, a 31-year-old male motorcyclist was conscious when taken to the hospital. A 32-year-old male driver is currently cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
