CNB’s new chief leads a leadership change

New Leadership at Central Narcotics Bureau: Sam Tee Takes Charge

Today marks a significant change in leadership at the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) as Sam Tee Chong Fui officially steps in as the new chief. This transition comes after Ng Ser Song’s commendable service, with Tee taking over the role on November 6. The Change of Command ceremony was held at the Police Cantonment Complex on November 1, where Tee, aged 52, was welcomed into his new position.

A Wealth of Experience

Sam Tee brings with him an impressive 35 years of experience within Singapore’s Home Team. His extensive background includes roles such as Deputy Commander and Commander of various police divisions, including the Clementi Police Division and the Airport Police Division. Most recently, he served as the Senior Director of the Joint Operations Group at the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). His appointment as CNB (Designate) was made on August 15, 2022.

Tee has already demonstrated his leadership skills by heading the early-warning task force that responded to border disturbances in late 2023. This initiative was crucial in developing strategies to tackle foreign interference in Singapore’s domestic affairs.

Commitment to a Drug-Free Singapore

Under Tee’s leadership, the CNB will continue its strong commitment to a Zero Tolerance Policy towards drugs. Ng Ser Song, Tee’s predecessor, played a pivotal role in instilling this approach, emphasizing that there is always more to learn in the fight against drugs.

The CNB has successfully collaborated with international partners to dismantle over 20 overseas-based drug syndicates each year. In a notable operation in April 2021, the bureau seized an astounding 40kg of drugs, including record amounts of heroin and cannabis, valued at over $2,000 on the street. This significant haul was enough to sustain the addiction of over 12,000 individuals for a week, highlighting the ongoing drug challenges in Singapore.

Looking Ahead

With Sam Tee at the helm, Singaporeans can feel reassured that the CNB is in capable hands. His no-nonsense approach and extensive experience in drug enforcement are expected to enhance the bureau’s effectiveness in combating drug-related issues. This leadership change signifies a renewed commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of our community.

As we welcome Sam Tee Chong Fui as the new chief of the CNB, Singaporeans can take comfort in knowing that the fight against drugs will continue with determination and resilience.
