When the passenger woke up, his phone was buzzing with messages. He later discovered that several taxi drivers had also left their phones behind in their vehicles. The 62-year-old driver mentioned that items left behind could easily be taken by subsequent passengers without anyone knowing.
Drivers Share Their Concerns
Another driver, Liang, echoed similar sentiments. He expressed that it’s challenging for drivers to thoroughly inspect their cars for lost items after dropping off passengers. The 56-year-old felt that a written warning was unreasonable unless the authorities could prove he hadn’t checked the vehicle or taken possession of it. According to the Road Traffic Rules, drivers who fail to handle lost property correctly can face demerit points.
Ong Boon remains adamant about rejecting the LTA’s decision. Ms. MacPherson, his MP, mentioned that the taxi driver had even stopped at Woodlands Checkpoint to confirm that the passenger hadn’t left his wallet behind.
