Teen Vandalism Incident Shakes Punggol Community
School’s out and exams are behind us, but not all students are choosing to celebrate in a positive way. Instead of heading to the hawker centre for a well-deserved treat, a group of four teenagers decided to make headlines for all the wrong reasons.
What Happened?
On the morning of November 13th, a vandalism incident unfolded at Blk 325 Sumang Walk in Punggol. As I made my way to the void deck to grab my newspaper, I noticed three young Indian males heading my way. Little did I know, they were part of a group planning a night of mischief.
A two-minute video shared on YouTube by SG Road Vigilante captured the chaos. It showed a group of 13- to 14-year-olds making their way up the steps towards the parking lot. In a shocking display, one youth dressed in black was seen spraying red paint on a nearby motorbike. He then turned his attention to a parking sign, changing the arrow that pointed upwards to read “down.” Following suit, another teen in a white T-shirt added “up” to the downward arrow on the same sign. The antics continued as they vandalized walls and gym equipment with red paint.
Community Reaction
Witnesses were understandably upset. Many expressed frustration over the mess left behind for town cleaners to deal with. One resident shared their disappointment, stating, “It’s disheartening to see our community treated this way.” The principal of the International French School (IFS) also chimed in, noting that such behaviour has become all too common among students.
The Aljunied-Hougang Town Council confirmed that both school representatives and the police would be addressing residents’ concerns.
Consequences of Their Actions
Four youths, aged between 13 and 14, have since been taken into custody as investigations continue. Under the Vandalism Act, these teens could face hefty fines of up to $2,000 or even imprisonment for three to eight years. Not only will they likely be held responsible for damages, but they may also find themselves banned from using public spaces.
This incident raises an important question: what message are we sending about our youth? The actions of a few can tarnish the reputation of all teenagers in the eyes of the public.
Respect for Public Spaces
It’s crucial for all of us to remember the importance of respecting public property. Our community spaces, like HDB void decks and gyms, are meant for everyone to enjoy. Let’s hope this serves as a wake-up call for our young ones to think twice before engaging in such destructive behaviour.

Promoting Respect for Shared Spaces Among Youth
It’s important for all of us, especially young individuals, to recognize the value of respecting both personal property and public spaces. Understanding the impact of our actions can foster a sense of community and responsibility.
When we engage in behavior that damages shared areas, we not only face potential consequences such as financial restitution and restrictions on access, but we also risk shaping a less favorable perception of youth in our society. Let’s work together to cultivate a culture of respect and care for our environment!
By encouraging respectful behavior and accountability among young people, we can create a more harmonious community where everyone feels valued and safe. Initiatives such as community clean-up days or workshops on the importance of public spaces can empower youth to take ownership of their surroundings.
