Heartwarming Gesture: Celebrating a Hawker’s Birthday with Laksa

On November 6, a delightful surprise unfolded at 88 Katong Laksa MacPherson. A generous customer decided to celebrate her hawker’s birthday by ordering 100 bowls of laksa! Charlie Soh, the hawker behind the stall, was overjoyed when an anonymous female customer called him to share this wonderful gesture.

Bringing Joy to the Elderly

As part of the celebration, elderly patrons were invited to the stall for a complimentary meal. This initiative also included seniors from the MacPherson Active Ageing Centre. On November 13, Soh shared his uplifting experience on the Hawkers United Facebook Group – Dabao 2020. His post featured smiling customers in front of his stall, showcasing the joy that the event brought to the community.

A Special Invitation

Soh announced that on November 15 at 3 PM, fifty seniors would be treated to a free bowl of laksa at his stall. He expressed his hope for continued support for similar events in December 2022. It seems that 88 Katong Laksa regularly hosts such heartwarming gatherings, as noted on Soh’s Facebook page.

Community Love and Kindness

The comments on his post were filled with positivity, with many users sending birthday wishes to Soh. One Facebook user highlighted that “kindness is contagious,” while another praised both the sponsor and the hawkers for their generous acts.

According to AsiaOne, 88 Katong Laksa was established to support Soh’s wife in making a living. Despite undergoing a neck operation in October 2022 and having upcoming appointments with a cardiologist next January, Soh continues to spread kindness and serve delicious laksa to eager customers.
