Orders food at a restaurant located 1km from his home, and receives it two hours later

Tai KX’s Frustrating Food Delivery Experience: A Lesson on Expectations

Imagine ordering your favourite chicken rice from Boon Tong Kee and eagerly waiting for it to arrive. That’s exactly what Tai KX did, but what followed was a two-hour ordeal that left him fuming.

Two Hours of Waiting

Tai placed his order through Foodpanda on Sunday, January 15, expecting it to arrive in about 40 minutes. After all, it’s only a 1km distance from Compass One to his HDB block. However, as the minutes ticked by, he found himself waiting for a staggering two hours.

When the delivery rider finally arrived, he didn’t bring the food to Tai’s unit. Instead, he left it at the void deck. Can you imagine having to rush down to collect your meal after such a long wait? Tai was understandably furious and took to Facebook to share his experience.

Communication Breakdown

During the wait, Tai tried to reach out to the rider, only to be met with frustrating responses. The rider claimed he had “stack orders” and asked Tai to keep waiting. After 30 minutes, the rider’s GPS showed no movement, and Tai’s hunger began to turn into irritation.

He attempted to get help from Foodpanda, speaking with five different agents, but all he received were system-generated replies and an offer for $4.95 premium support.

Delayed Delivery and Unreasonable Behaviour

Finally, at 8:18 PM, the rider informed Tai that his food was on the way. But instead of delivering it to his door, the rider left it on a table at the void deck. Tai described this action as cowardly, expressing his understanding of the challenges delivery riders face but feeling that this particular rider was unreasonable.

He stated, “If the rider came to my place, I wouldn’t scold him. I would just watch him eat my food.”

Foodpanda’s Response

Tai chose not to report the incident to Foodpanda, believing it would be pointless. However, Foodpanda later explained that their delivery partners are freelancers who sometimes juggle multiple orders across different platforms. While this can lead to delays, the company warns its riders against taking on too many deliveries at once.

Foodpanda reassured customers that they value their trust and strive to ensure timely deliveries.

What This Means for Customers

This incident serves as a reminder of the challenges both customers and delivery riders face. For customers, it means being prepared for potential delays and understanding that while riders work hard, things can go awry.

As the food delivery landscape continues to evolve, it’s crucial for both parties to communicate effectively and manage expectations.
