“Disgusting attitude”: A passenger accuses a bus driver of repeatedly scolding seniors over the use of wheelchair assistance

Compassion on the Roads: A Disturbing Encounter with an SBS Bus Driver

It’s disheartening to hear stories where kindness takes a backseat, especially when it comes to helping those in need. A recent incident involving a wheelchair user and an SBS bus driver has sparked outrage among Singaporeans.

On February 1, a witness, known as Bella Bii, shared her experience on Facebook that left many shaking their heads. She described a scene where a woman in a wheelchair requested assistance from the bus captain, only to be met with a rude response.

A Disturbing Incident Unfolds

At around 9:20 PM, Bella Bii and her daughter were waiting for bus service 147 to Hougang Central Bus Interchange. When her daughter approached the driver for help, the response was anything but compassionate. “Why didn’t you tell me earlier?” he allegedly snapped in Chinese, adding that he had to move the wheelchair ramp again.

Bella Bii recounted how the driver forcefully banged the ramp, startling passengers on board. Even as he drove, he continued to shout at the women, displaying reckless driving behaviour that put everyone at risk. Bella Bii expressed her concern for the elderly passengers on the bus, highlighting that such anger could lead to dangerous situations.

Calls for Kindness and Understanding

In her post, Bella Bii emphasized the need for empathy and kindness, urging the driver to reflect on how he would feel if treated the same way by others. “Imagine how your parents or grandparents would want to be treated,” she wrote, reminding everyone that compassion is crucial, especially in a bustling city like Singapore.

This isn’t the first time SBS bus drivers have faced scrutiny. Last November, another passenger reported being yelled at for not drinking enough water while on the bus. Such incidents raise questions about the treatment of passengers and the importance of maintaining a respectful environment.

Creating a More Caring Environment

These unfortunate events remind us that we must be vigilant and considerate towards one another, not just on public transport but in all aspects of life. How can we foster a more caring atmosphere in our daily interactions?

– **Be Aware**: Stay attentive to your surroundings and the needs of others.
– **Practice Patience**: Everyone has their struggles; a little patience can go a long way.
– **Follow Safety Protocols**: Ensure that everyone feels safe and respected in shared spaces.

As we navigate our busy lives in Singapore, let’s remember the importance of kindness. After all, we all share this space, and a little compassion can make a significant difference.
