After being cursed by a woman and claiming that it was the’most degrading time of my entire life,’ Grab driver cancels his ride

When Ride-Hailing Turns Sour: A Driver’s Experience

Imagine hopping into a Grab car, only to be met with a barrage of complaints from the driver. Not the best way to start your journey, right? This was the unfortunate reality for one passenger recently, as shared by the driver, Fu Shiyong, on Facebook.

The Incident Unfolds

Fu recounted his experience on February 14, detailing how the ride began like any other. He picked up a female passenger at Anglo-Chinese Junior College, with the destination set for Queen’s View in Queenstown. However, things took a turn when the passenger wasn’t at the designated pick-up spot.

After confirming through the app’s chat that he had arrived, Fu looked around but couldn’t find her. The security guard nearby advised him to stay on the main road. Just as he was about to leave, he heard a knock on the window.

That’s when the passenger, who appeared to be in her 40s, opened the door and began to berate him. Fu felt humiliated, as if he were a child being scolded for making mistakes.

Choosing to Cancel

Feeling disrespected, Fu decided to cancel the trip. He asked the woman to exit his vehicle, which led to her expressing shock and even threatening to sue Grab for the incident. This was a first for Fu—canceling a ride after the passenger had already boarded.

A Wider Issue in Ride-Hailing

This isn’t an isolated incident. Recently, a TikTok video went viral showing a heated exchange between a passenger and a Gojek driver. In that case, the passenger adjusted the air conditioning and seat without asking, leading to a loud argument. The driver, feeling disrespected, eventually kicked the passenger out of the car.

Gojek has since stated that they do not tolerate rude behavior from either drivers or passengers and are investigating the matter.

Promoting Respect and Understanding

These incidents highlight a growing concern in the ride-hailing industry. As we navigate our busy lives in Singapore, it’s crucial to remember the importance of respect and understanding towards one another.

How do these events make you feel? For many, it’s a reminder of the need for greater tolerance in our interactions. Let’s strive to treat each other with kindness, whether we’re behind the wheel or in the passenger seat.
