Exciting Changes Ahead for Singapore’s School Curriculum!

Have you ever wondered how well our students understand the diverse cultures and religions that make up Singapore? On 26 August 2022, the Ministry of Education (MOE) announced a significant review of the school curriculum aimed at enriching students’ learning experiences in this area.

Why This Review Matters

Currently, our young learners explore different cultures and religions mainly through humanities and social studies. While these subjects lay a solid foundation, the MOE believes it’s time to go further. They are looking to introduce more “explicit and dedicated learning experiences” that will help students appreciate the rich tapestry of our multicultural society.

A Diverse Committee for a Comprehensive Approach

To ensure a well-rounded perspective, the review will be led by a committee chaired by Professor Tan Cheng Han, the dean of the National University of Singapore’s Faculty of Law. This committee isn’t just made up of academics; it includes religious leaders, educators, and social activists who bring a wealth of experience and insight.

What’s Next?

The committee is hard at work and is expected to submit its recommendations by the end of the year. This initiative could pave the way for a more inclusive and understanding generation of Singaporeans, fostering empathy and respect among our future leaders.
