Lost and Found: A Heartwarming Tale of Pets at Changi Airport
When it comes to our furry friends, the bond is undeniable. Recently, a touching story unfolded at Changi Airport, capturing the hearts of many Singaporeans. Cathay Cargo, the cargo division of Cathay Pacific, has made headlines after a cat went missing during its transfer, sparking a community effort to reunite the pet with its owner.
Aiko’s Adventure
On October 28, Adrian Wong was devastated when he discovered that his ginger cat, Aiko, had gone missing while being transferred to a flight in Hong Kong. In a bid to find her, he turned to the Lost and Found Pets in Singapore Facebook group, reaching out to fellow animal lovers for help. The community rallied together, and just a few days later, on November 1, Aiko was found in the airport’s cargo area.
Despite losing some weight and getting a bit dirty, Aiko was reported to be in good health after a check-up at the vet. Adrian expressed his gratitude to everyone who assisted in the search, highlighting the power of community support.
Cathay Pacific’s Response
In response to inquiries from The Straits Times, Ashish Kapur, Cathay Pacific’s regional head of cargo for Southeast Asia, explained that Aiko had escaped through a hole in her carrier during the transfer process. A thorough search was conducted with the help of professional animal handlers, which ultimately led to Aiko’s safe discovery. Plans are now underway to reunite her with Adrian in Hong Kong.
Kapur extended his apologies to Adrian for the distress caused by the incident and assured that measures would be implemented to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
A Similar Incident: A Dog’s Escape
In a separate but equally heartwarming story, a dog named Ashwini also made headlines after escaping from her crate at Changi Airport on the same day, October 28. Owner Sai Ranganathan was at the airport to board a Scoot flight to India when he received the distressing news. Concerned for Ashwini’s safety, he decided to stay in Singapore to search for her, even as his flight was delayed.
Fortunately, after a two-hour search, Ashwini was found safe and sound. However, the incident led to the cancellation of Sai’s flight, leaving him disappointed with how the situation was handled. A Scoot spokesperson clarified that the dog had escaped while being loaded onto the plane, and they were sorry for the inconvenience caused to all affected passengers.
Community Spirit Shines Through
These stories remind us of the strong bond we share with our pets and the lengths we will go to ensure their safety. It’s a relief to see both Aiko and Ashwini returned to their loving owners, showcasing the power of community and the importance of empathy in times of distress.
