Jogger’s Heart-Pounding Encounter with Stray Dogs in Pasir Ris
A casual jog at the park took a wild turn for one jogger when a pack of stray dogs decided to join the chase. This thrilling moment was shared on TikTok by user Garygaryocp, who revealed that the video was filmed by an anonymous bystander around 10:40 PM near Pasir Ris Drive 3 on Saturday, November 4.
The Chase Unfolds
In the one-minute clip, the stray dogs were seen roaming a quiet path before the jogger appeared. Suddenly, they began barking loudly and sprinted after him. The jogger quickly picked up his pace, with five dogs hot on his heels. The video ended dramatically as he disappeared from sight, screaming, while the dogs continued their pursuit.
In a follow-up video posted on November 6, Gary confirmed that the brave jogger managed to find safety, though not without sustaining a few cuts and scrapes. After falling, he suffered injuries to his hand, elbow, and knees. Thankfully, the dogs lost interest after he fell.
A Growing Concern
Gary pointed out that this isn’t the first time these stray dogs have chased someone. He warned that they could pose a real danger to children and the elderly. In fact, cyclists had previously reported encounters with a pack of stray dogs at Lorong Halus in Pasir Ris back in 2021.
While some netizens found humour in the jogger’s speed, others suggested he should have stood his ground instead of running. The general belief is that while the dogs may seem aggressive initially, they often retreat when confronted.
Staying Safe Around Stray Dogs
The Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS) advises that stray dogs are often seen in packs, searching for food and shelter. Although they may appear aggressive, most stray dogs are actually afraid of humans and will avoid them. However, some may approach out of curiosity, which can trigger a chase.
If you encounter a stray dog, here are some tips to stay safe:
– **Stay Calm**: Avoid panicking or running, as this can trigger the dog’s prey drive.
– **Back Away Slowly**: Keep facing the dog while you slowly back away.
– **Fold Your Arms**: Cross your arms in front of you and walk away at a steady pace.
Be Aware When Out Alone
This incident serves as a reminder for us to be cautious when out alone, especially at night. Being aware of our surroundings can help us avoid potential dangers. When we are alone, we may be seen as easy targets, making it crucial to take precautions.
Remember, staying alert and knowing how to react in unexpected situations can make all the difference.
