Jogger’s Night Out Turns Into a Wild Chase with Stray Dogs

Imagine enjoying a peaceful jog at the park when suddenly, a pack of stray dogs decides to join you for a sprint! That’s exactly what happened to a jogger near Pasir Ris Drive 3 last Saturday night (Nov 4). The entire heart-pounding chase was captured on TikTok by user Garygaryocp, who received the footage from an anonymous eyewitness around 10:40 PM.

A Frightening Encounter

In the one-minute video, you can see the jogger casually running along a quiet path. Suddenly, a group of stray dogs appears, barking excitedly as they spot him. As the jogger speeds up, the dogs chase after him, creating a scene that many viewers found both alarming and amusing. The clip ends abruptly, leaving us wondering about the jogger’s fate as he disappears from view, still screaming with the dogs hot on his heels.

Gary later shared an update on Nov 6, revealing that the jogger did manage to find safety, but not without some injuries. “Afterwards, the man fell and got cuts on his hand, elbow, and knees,” Gary wrote. Thankfully, the dogs lost interest after he fell.

Stray Dogs: A Growing Concern

This isn’t the first time stray dogs have caused a commotion in the area. Gary mentioned that these dogs have previously chased other joggers and cyclists, raising concerns about their potential danger, especially to children and the elderly. In fact, some cyclists have reported seeing a pack of stray dogs at Lorong Halus in Pasir Ris.

While some netizens found humour in the jogger’s impressive speed, others suggested he should have stood his ground instead of running. As someone who enjoys evening runs in the park, I can relate to the fear these encounters can bring. However, it’s worth noting that these packs of dogs often aren’t as threatening as they appear.

What to Do If You Encounter Stray Dogs

The Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS) advises that stray dogs usually travel in packs while searching for food and shelter. Most of these dogs are more scared of humans than we think and will typically avoid us. If you do come across a stray dog, here are some tips to stay safe:

– **Stay Calm**: Avoid panicking or making sudden movements.
– **Don’t Run**: Running may trigger the dog’s instinct to chase.
– **Fold Your Arms**: Keep your arms in front of you to appear less threatening.
– **Walk Slowly Away**: Move in the opposite direction at a steady pace.

A Reminder for All Singaporeans

This incident serves as a crucial reminder for all of us to be cautious while exercising outdoors. Whether you’re jogging in the park or cycling along the coast, it’s essential to stay alert and aware of your surroundings.
