Jogger’s Heart-Stopping Encounter with Stray Dogs in Pasir Ris

A casual evening jog turned into a thrilling chase for one jogger when he found himself being pursued by a pack of stray dogs. This unexpected incident, which took place around 10.40pm on Saturday, November 4, near Pasir Ris Drive 3, was captured in a one-minute video shared on TikTok by user Garygaryocp. The footage, sent to him by an anonymous eyewitness, shows the jogger’s frantic sprint as the dogs bark and chase after him.

A Close Call

In the clip, the peaceful park path quickly transforms into a scene of chaos. As the jogger approaches, the stray dogs, previously wandering aimlessly, spring into action. He picks up his pace, with five dogs hot on his heels, and the video ends with him disappearing from sight, still yelling in fright. Fortunately, in a follow-up video posted on November 6, it was revealed that the jogger managed to find safety, albeit with some cuts and scrapes. “After falling down, Gary suffered cuts on his hand, elbow, and knees,” he explained. Thankfully, the dogs lost interest after he fell.

Stray Dogs: A Growing Concern

Gary noted that this isn’t the first time these stray dogs have chased someone, raising concerns about their potential danger, especially to children and the elderly. In fact, I spotted the same pack during my morning cycling routine just this Tuesday. Back in 2021, cyclists had also reported seeing a group of stray dogs at Lorong Halus in Pasir Ris.

While some netizens found humor in the jogger’s rapid escape, others suggested that he should have stood his ground instead of running. The Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVS) advises the public to stay calm if they encounter a stray dog. Instead of running, fold your arms in front of you and walk slowly in the opposite direction. Stray dogs are usually more afraid of humans and prefer to avoid confrontation.

Stay Safe While Jogging or Walking

So, why should Singaporeans be extra cautious when jogging or walking in parks? The primary concern is the risk of dog bites. Stray dogs may not be vaccinated and could carry diseases that pose a threat to humans. If bitten, it’s crucial to seek medical attention immediately.
