Delivery Rider’s Unhygienic Act Caught on CCTV Sparks Outrage
Imagine ordering your favourite laksa, only to find out that the delivery rider poured the spilt soup back into the container! This shocking incident was recently captured on a homeowner’s CCTV, raising serious concerns about food safety.
What Happened?
Wendy, a resident living along Somme Road in Jalan Besar, noticed some suspicious soup stains at her staircase. Curious, she checked her CCTV footage and was shocked by what she saw. The incident took place last Wednesday (Nov 1) around 11.45 am. The 40-second clip revealed the rider removing two food containers from a plastic bag and pouring the spilt soup back into one of them.
“It’s damn unhygienic and super disgusting,” Wendy exclaimed. She wondered whether the rider or the restaurant was to blame for this unsanitary behaviour.
Wendy’s Frustrations with Food Delivery
Wendy isn’t alone in her frustrations. She shared that she stopped using food delivery services over a year ago due to receiving cold and undercooked meals. “The Singapore Food Agency really needs to implement rules requiring food boxes to have seals or stickers. This way, we can know if the covers have been tampered with,” she suggested.
While customers can sometimes get refunds for spilt orders, the question remains: who pays for these accidents? According to a report by CNA, food delivery companies typically absorb the costs of spilt food. A representative from Grab mentioned that delivery partners are only penalised if they repeatedly mishandle orders and receive multiple complaints.
What Happens to Delivery Riders?
Foodpanda has a similar policy. Delivery riders are not penalised if customers request refunds for spilt food. However, if a rider is consistently careless, they risk being permanently removed from the platform. “Once you’re caught, there are no second chances,” a Foodpanda representative warned.
Deliveroo follows the same guidelines. Riders are instructed to contact the Rider Support team for guidance on handling such situations and arranging redelivery if necessary. A representative from Deliveroo assured that customers would be compensated based on the circumstances.
Ensuring Food Safety and Hygiene
So, how can we improve food safety and hygiene in Singapore? It’s crucial to ensure that food is prepared and handled in a clean environment. Here are some simple steps everyone can take:
– **Wash hands thoroughly** before handling food.
– **Cook food properly** to kill harmful bacteria.
– **Store food safely** to prevent contamination.
By following these practices, we can help maintain a safe dining experience for everyone.
