Koh, along with her friend, visited the Coffeeman cafe located at the Devan Nair Institute around 3:20 PM on November 6. They ordered two cups of teh, but instead of simply asking if they wanted a lid, the cashier inquired if they wanted to “cover” their drinks. Koh pointed out that this wording was confusing and felt it was misleading.

“It’s not just about the 10 cents,” she explained. “It’s about being clear with customers.” She highlighted that all the drinks at the cafe were served in takeaway cups, which made the extra charge feel unfair.

After enjoying their drinks, Koh noticed the additional charge when her friend checked the receipt. However, by then, it was too late to address the issue with the staff since they had already consumed their beverages. Koh clarified that both drinks were capped, yet she was still charged for just one lid.
