A Heartwarming Farewell: A Father’s Last Wish Comes True in Singapore
In a touching story that warms the heart, a Singaporean father fulfilled his dying wish to witness his daughter’s wedding, even as he battled terminal cancer. According to Shin Min Daily News, he participated in a tea ceremony at the hospice, surrounded by family, and passed away peacefully the following night.
A Dream Realized Amidst Heartache
Shin Min Daily News reported that the couple, Sng Hui Sing (29) and her fiancé, had originally planned their wedding for November 11. However, time was not on their side. Sng’s father had been diagnosed with colorectal cancer three years ago. Although surgery was an option, his serious heart issues made it too risky. The family opted for radiotherapy and chemotherapy, but his health took a downturn just a month later.
When the family learned that he had only three months left, they were devastated. Sng and her mother began to discuss her father’s unfulfilled dreams. They soon discovered that his greatest wish was to see Sng get married. While Sng’s mother suggested they wait until they were ready, the couple decided to act quickly after discussions with their families.
Making the Wedding Happen
With the urgency of the situation, Sng’s fiancé and his family sprang into action. They coordinated with the hospice staff, who were incredibly supportive. The team arranged for a tea ceremony at the hospice, hired a makeup artist, and prepared all the necessary decorations.
Thanks to the efforts of Ambulance Wish Singapore, the ceremony was moved up to October 30, giving Sng’s father more time to prepare. Sng expressed her gratitude, marveling at how quickly everything came together. “In just three days, we managed to set up a room, find a makeup artist, and arrange the tea set and bouquet,” she shared.
A Touching Moment
The tea ceremony was intimate, with around seven family members present, thanks to special permission from the hospice. One of the most emotional moments came when Sng’s fiancé handed the tea to her father. “Papa, drink while it is hot. I’ll go and rest,” he gently encouraged.
Ambulance Wish Singapore noted that despite his exhaustion, Sng’s father managed to grasp the cup with both hands, a testament to his determination. The joy in that moment was palpable, as he savoured the tea, surrounded by love.
A Bittersweet Goodbye
Sadly, Sng’s father passed away peacefully shortly after the ceremony, having fulfilled his final wish. The couple plans to hold their ROM ceremony at home on December 18, with their wedding banquet postponed until next year.
In a gesture of gratitude, Sng and her mother donated $500 to Ambulance Wish Singapore, hoping to help others achieve their last wishes. This beautiful story reminds us of the compassion and support that exists within our Singaporean community.
