A woman shares her experience of living in a penthouse apartment at a hospital, including lobster feasts and stunning views of the skyline.

Staying in a hospital isn’t exactly a walk in the park, but what if you could recover in a penthouse suite? That’s exactly what happened to Shannon during her bunion surgery at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital. She recently shared her experience on TikTok, giving us a glimpse into her upgraded room that felt more like a luxurious hotel than a hospital ward.

Initially, Shannon had booked a standard room, but due to full occupancy, she was pleasantly surprised with a penthouse upgrade. In her TikTok video posted on September 23, she showcased her beautiful room, which boasted amenities like a coffee maker, Perrier bottles, and even a heated toilet seat cover. It’s not every day you get such treatment in a hospital!

The difference was clear: while standard wards have their charm, the penthouse offered a stunning view of the sky, making it a unique experience. Shannon described the room as a breath of fresh air, especially when compared to the dreary weather outside that matched her mood.

Dining was another highlight of her stay. Since she wasn’t feeling well enough to visit the hospital cafeteria, she enjoyed having her meals delivered right to her room. And what meals they were! Shannon indulged in mouthwatering lobster porridge and lobster laksa, joking that she had picked all the lobster dishes. She even connected her phone to the Bluetooth speaker to enjoy some music while dining, making the experience feel even more special.

Shannon spent two nights in the hospital, and despite the mixed reactions from netizens—some loved the hotel-like feel, while others felt it was still just a hospital—she appreciated the luxury. One commenter pointed out that hospital stays are never enjoyable, and highlighted the hefty daily rates for rooms at Mount Elizabeth Novena, which can range from $768 to $15,388. That’s quite a price tag for a “Royal Suite” experience!

In her video, Shannon mentioned that she is covered under insurance, which is a relief when facing such costs. With her unique experience, she reminded us that even in challenging times, a little luxury can make a difference.
