Ang Mo Kio Coffee Shop: “Mickey Mouse Is Bigger Than Donald Duck”: Diner sees a rat scuttling alongside roast ducks

Shocking Scene at Ang Mo Kio Cafe: A Rat Sighting Stuns Diners

Imagine enjoying your meal at your favourite Ang Mo Kio cafe when suddenly, a rat scurries by! This surprising incident recently took place at a popular eatery located at Block 339 Ang Mo Kio Ave 1, leaving many patrons in disbelief.

What Happened?

Pan, a 42-year-old diner, was just finishing his meal when he spotted a dark shadow near the roast meat stall. To his horror, it turned out to be a rat, approximately 15 cm long, climbing up the pipes towards the roast ducks. “I screamed!” Pan recalled, quickly grabbing his mobile phone to capture the shocking moment on video. He jokingly remarked that the rat felt like “Mickey Mouse was bigger than Donald Duck.”

Health Concerns Arise

While Pan found some humour in the situation, he couldn’t shake off the serious health concerns it raised. The stall was closed, and he worried about the hygiene of the food being sold. “Rats running up and down the pipes can easily contaminate exposed ingredients with bacteria. This is extremely unsanitary!” he expressed. Pan decided to avoid the cafe until he felt it was safe again.

When reporters spoke to an employee at the roast meat stall, they were met with reluctance. The staff claimed this was the first rat sighting in their two-year history. They assured customers that all food is stored properly after closing hours to maintain hygiene. However, other diners shared that rats had been spotted in the trash chute at the back of the shop, with some claiming they often come out after hours looking for food.

Rats: A Growing Concern in Singapore

This isn’t an isolated incident. Last year, patrons at Boon Lay’s mookata restaurant were alarmed when a rat brushed against a woman’s husband while they were dining. Videos of rats running along pipes have gone viral on platforms like YouTube, drawing attention to the issue. One video featured a rat munching on an ear of corn in a Giant supermarket in Hougang, leaving viewers both amused and horrified.

What Can Be Done?

This news is certainly unsettling, highlighting the need for better food safety practices. It’s crucial for both diners and food establishments to be vigilant about hygiene. The government can play a role by enhancing public education on food safety and handling. Additionally, companies should invest in internal training for employees to ensure they understand the importance of maintaining a clean environment.

In conclusion, while we all love our local hawker food, we must be cautious and proactive about food safety. Let’s keep our dining experiences enjoyable and safe!
