“Bishan People, Shame on You”: A man complains that commuters don’t queue at the bus interchange. Residents explain why

Queueing Woes at Bishan Bus Interchange: A Commuter’s Frustration

Are you tired of the chaos at Bishan Bus Interchange? You’re not alone! A frustrated commuter recently took to Facebook to vent about the lack of orderly queues at this busy hub. Many netizens have echoed similar sentiments, dubbing Bishan the “worst bus interchange” in Singapore.

Why Can’t We Queue Properly?

Imagine this: you arrive at the interchange, ready to board your bus, but instead of a neat line, you’re met with a sea of people pushing their way forward. “Railings were installed to help us queue, but no one seems to use them,” the commuter lamented. Instead, everyone rushes to board as soon as a bus arrives, leading to a chaotic scene.

Initially, the commuter thought this was just a one-off incident. However, after a second visit, it became clear that this was a regular occurrence. Even when he stood patiently in line, he felt ignored as others barged ahead.

The Unspoken Queue System

Interestingly, some commenters suggested that the bus services at Bishan are often grouped together, creating an “unspoken no queue system.” For instance, buses like 54G and 410G both head to Bishan Street 13, while 52W and 410W go to Street 22. This leads to a mad dash for the first bus that arrives.

One netizen argued that if there were more distinct services like 55 or 53, people might be more inclined to wait. Despite the complaints, others pointed out that commuters at bus stops in Pasir Ris and Bedok still manage to queue, even with similar setups. Could it be that the disorder at Bishan is more common than we think?

Other Bus Interchange Issues

While Bishan Bus Interchange has its queueing problems, it’s not the only one facing cleanliness issues. Eunos Bus Interchange has recently come under fire for being covered in bird droppings. One commuter described the situation as “so bad that even the railings and gutter pipes are affected.”

Grace Wu, SBS Transit’s VP of Customer Experience, acknowledged the cleanliness challenges at Eunos, stating that cleaning is done twice daily. Unfortunately, birds often fly in from nearby fields, leaving droppings behind. Wu assured commuters that they are exploring solutions to improve the situation.

What’s Next for Bishan Bus Interchange?

Heads up! The Bishan Bus Interchange will be undergoing redevelopment for 14 months starting August 18, with completion expected by October 2020. During this period, commuters can use the nearby Bishan or Braddell MRT stations for their travel needs.

This redevelopment aims to enhance the commuting experience for everyone, but it may cause some inconvenience in the meantime.
