The Illusion of Love
Lin recalls how Anna, who claimed to be a fashion designer from Malaysia working in Singapore, followed him first. Their conversations started casually, and within three days, Lin suggested they date. Anna agreed, and soon they were chatting for hours every day. Everything felt normal, or so he thought.
The Scam Unfolds
Things took a turn when Anna asked Lin for help with some sales transactions. She promised him a commission for writing product reviews and transferring money to her account. Trusting her, Lin made 14 fund transfers between October 18 and 19, amounting to a staggering $45,590. Initially, he received small amounts back—$116 and $735—but soon, the money stopped coming.
As Anna pressured him for more funds, Lin started to feel uneasy. He decided to stop sending money and contacted the police. To confirm his suspicions, he called the boutique where Anna claimed to work, only to find out there was no employee by that name. Shockingly, two of the transactions had even been made from his mother’s bank account.
The Aftermath
When Lin reported the incident to the police, he learned that recovering his money would be unlikely. He felt devastated, losing the savings he had set aside for university. For two weeks, he battled feelings of depression. Now, he plans to seek financial assistance from his school to cover his upcoming semester fees.
