Zeng Weiming, Wang’s grandson-in-law and a food consultant, shared that the family collectively decided on the eco-friendly option. Even one of the uncles contributed by helping to decorate the casket.
The family chose this casket not just for its environmental benefits but also to allow everyone to express their love. Following Buddhist traditions, they adorned the casket with 100 swastika stickers and 38 stickers of Wang’s cherished adenium flowers.

Wang’s granddaughter, Wu Shutian, fondly remembered her grandmother as a joyful person who loved to joke with her grandchildren. Wu, a 42-year-old finance professional, noted that Wang had even selected her own photos for the funeral arrangements. Wang was laid to rest on Thursday, surrounded by the love and memories of her family.
The family worked with Unity Casket Funeral Planner, whose founder, William Tan, revealed that they receive about five requests for eco-friendly caskets each month. He explained that these caskets are suitable for both burial and cremation, and interestingly, cremating a corrugated paper casket takes about 30 minutes less than a wooden one.
