SP Group and SPC Team Up for Fast EV Charging in Singapore
Exciting news for electric vehicle (EV) owners in Singapore! SP Group (SP) and Singapore Petroleum Company (SPC) have joined forces to roll out fast charging stations across the island. This partnership aims to make charging your EV as convenient as grabbing a kopi at your local hawker centre.
Initial Rollout of Charging Stations
In the first phase, five charging stations will be set up at various SPC service points. The first public charging station featuring a 150kW DC fast charger will be located at the Bukit Batok SPC station. If you plug in two vehicles at the same time, they will charge at a reduced rate of 75kW each.
Here’s a quick overview of the planned locations for the charging stations:
– **Bukit Batok** – 150kW fast charger
– **Ang Mo Kio Ave 1** – 50kW fast charger
– **Bukit Merah Link** – 50kW fast charger
– **Sumang Link** – 50kW fast charger
– **Tampines Ave 4** – 50kW fast charger
This initiative is set to continue throughout 2023, with the aim of expanding the network over the years.
Fast Charging Made Easy
The new 150kW charger can power up your EV in under 15 minutes, depending on the vehicle’s capacity. This is a significant improvement over existing options, like the Charge+ 120kW chargers, which have been leading the charge in quick public vehicle charging.
However, it’s important to note that fast chargers draw a lot of power from the grid, so they can’t be placed everywhere just yet. The team is still working on finalizing locations and supplies, but you can expect to see more chargers popping up across Singapore as usage patterns stabilize.
Expanding Charging Infrastructure
As of June 2020, SP has installed 37 ultra-high-power charging points that can charge at 200kW or more, allowing for charging speeds up to 2.6 times faster. With the support of the Land Transport Authority, SP is expanding its charging infrastructure, particularly in Housing and Development Board (HDB) carparks across the east and north regions.
This means that electric vehicle owners can charge their cars conveniently, whether they’re at home or out and about.
A Greener Future for Singapore
This collaboration between SP and SPC is a positive step towards making Singapore a more sustainable city. With more fast-charging stations available, electric vehicle owners can enjoy the benefits of eco-friendly driving while contributing to a greener environment.
