Government Boosts Support for Public Service Officers’ Well-Being

Public service officers in Singapore are set to receive enhanced support from the government, aimed at improving their well-being. This announcement was made by Minister Chan Chun Sing during the Public Service Week Opening at ITE College Central on July 10.

Staying Ahead in a Changing Landscape

Chan highlighted the need for public service officers to adapt to constant changes while continuing to serve the nation effectively. He acknowledged that the fast-paced environment can be overwhelming and stressed the importance of self-care to maintain their dedication.

To support this, the government launched the Well-being@Gov program earlier this year. This initiative provides valuable resources, including self-care tools, coaching sessions, and counseling services.

Introducing FlexiGrow for Personal Development

Starting in October, the government will roll out FlexiGrow, a program designed to help officers manage their well-being and personal growth. Eligible civil service officers will receive an annual benefit of $500, which can be used for health, growth, and well-being expenses.

Additionally, from January 1, 2025, public officers will enjoy enhanced medical and dental benefits. Medical subsidies at private clinics will increase from $20 to up to $50 per visit, while dental subsidies will rise from $120 to up to $250 per year.

Supporting Older Officers in Their Careers

In a move to support older officers who wish to continue contributing to society, Chan announced that the retirement and re-employment ages will be extended to 64 and 69, respectively, starting July 1, 2025. This change comes a year earlier than initially planned.

Chan encouraged public officers to continuously upgrade their skills to keep pace with evolving technologies and seize opportunities for innovation. The government offers various avenues for skills development, including short-term attachments, job rotations, and stints in the private sector. Participation in these programs has seen a fivefold increase over the past two years.

Acknowledging Excellence in Public Service

During the Public Service Week Opening ceremony, outstanding agencies and officers were recognized with 100 Public Sector Transformation awards for their exemplary service and innovation. Chan commended the winners for embodying the core values of innovation, growth, and care that are essential in public service.

He expressed confidence that nurturing these values will inspire future generations to pursue fulfilling careers in this vital sector.
