Beware of Online Scams: One Man’s Shocking Experience

A Bizarre Encounter on TikTok
On March 4, a man named Xie thought he had made new friends on TikTok. Seeking a way to pass the time, he struck up a conversation with a female user. However, things took a strange turn when she invited him to a video call and pressured him to strip naked for the camera. While Xie declined to engage in any explicit acts, he was drawn into a troubling situation.
From Friends to Threats
After the video call, Xie was shocked when this so-called friend began demanding money from him. The woman, along with a male accomplice, threatened to leak compromising footage if he didn’t pay up. Initially, they asked for a staggering $5,000, which left Xie feeling trapped and anxious.
He later met another woman on TikTok who also requested nude footage during a video chat. The next day, she sent him a message demanding money in exchange for not sharing the footage. Xie found himself in a web of deceit, feeling overwhelmed and scared.
Feeling the Pressure
Xie’s situation escalated quickly. The scammers called him repeatedly, insisting on immediate payment. Despite his reluctance, he agreed to pay $2,500 to avoid further threats. However, he could only transfer $1,500 before the scammers continued to pressure him for more.
Feeling suspicious and distressed, Xie eventually confided in his parents, who were furious and worried about his safety. They urged him to contact the police, who advised him to stop all communication with the scammers and block their numbers.
