Man’s Slip at Pine Close Raises Concerns Over Safety
On a regular day at block 1 Pine Close, Low Boon Chuen faced a shocking incident that left him injured. He fell in the common corridor, and unfortunately, this wasn’t just a one-time mishap. On February 3, he fell again in the same spot, leading to serious consequences.
Injuries and Medical Costs
Low took to Facebook on February 24 to share his traumatic experience. After his first fall, he suffered a painful injury to his right knee, which left him unable to stand or sit comfortably. Doctors had to perform surgery on his kneecap, which was shattered into pieces. The medical expenses for his surgery, consultations, and physiotherapy sessions added up to several thousand dollars.
He expressed that the pain has been severe and may affect him for years to come. Low also mentioned that he had to take nearly 60 days of hospitalization leave, extending until April 4.
Possible Causes of the Fall
Curious about why he fell in the same spot, Low speculated that the epoxy-coated floor might be to blame. He pointed out that it becomes “even more slippery” during rainy days, raising concerns about safety in the common areas.
Taking Action for Safety
In light of his experience, Low reached out to the Marine Parade Town Council and the Housing Development Board to prevent similar incidents from happening to others. He contacted his Member of Parliament (MP) on February 4 and 20, seeking assistance. According to Low, the town council informed his MP that they would follow up with him.
On February 24, Low received communication from the town council, stating they were exploring options for improving the flooring. He was told that he could expect the work to be completed within two to three months.
Response from Marine Parade Town Council
In response to Low’s incident, the Marine Parade Town Council reported only one slip-and-fall incident at block 1 Pine Close. A spokesperson expressed their regret over the unfortunate event and conveyed their hopes for Low’s recovery. They assured that the flooring is designed to be non-slip to minimize the risk of falls in common areas.
After learning about the incident, the town council is reviewing all possible options to enhance safety in the area. Improvements are already in the pipeline.
