“I found my purpose in strength training”: A woman helps carry an unconscious train passenger to Tiong Bahru

A Heartwarming Act of Kindness on the MRT

Imagine heading to the gym, only to find yourself in an unexpected situation that requires more than just lifting weights. That’s exactly what happened to Low Si Min on the morning of October 5th, when she boarded an MRT train at 7:05 am.

Emergency Stop at Tiong Bahru

As the train made an emergency stop at Tiong Bahru station, Low noticed a woman sitting nearby, her head down and seemingly unconscious. Two other women were trying to assist her, but they were struggling. With everyone looking on, Low felt compelled to help.

Taking Action

Without hesitation, Low stepped in. She handed over her sports bag to someone else and offered to carry the unconscious woman herself. With a gentle hug, she helped the woman to her feet, and together with the other two ladies, they managed to get her off the train. An ambulance soon arrived to take the passenger for further care.

Low mentioned that a male SMRT staff member was present during the incident but didn’t assist with the situation. She reflected that while some might feel pressured in such scenarios, her focus was solely on helping the woman.

Community Spirit Shines Through

After sharing her experience on TikTok, many praised Low for her quick thinking and kindness. It’s a reminder of the strength of community spirit in Singapore.

Another inspiring story comes from Tan Wei Fu, a 26-year-old who helped an elderly woman after she fell while getting off a bus. He noticed her hair was caught in the bus’s front wheels and rushed to a nearby community centre to fetch scissors to free her.

What This Says About Us

These incidents highlight the caring nature of our society. Despite the hustle and bustle of daily life, there are still many who are willing to lend a hand to those in need. It’s heartening to see that kindness and compassion are alive and well in Singapore.
