Ong had to clean and dry her moldy clothes, which led her to use an industrial laundromat, costing her $252. “The smell of mould was everywhere,” she said, recalling how her belongings, from floor mats to bedsheets, were affected.

Ong estimates the total damage to be around $16,000. “This experience has been incredibly tough, both physically and mentally,” she expressed.

Despite her distress, Ong learned that the storage company’s contract limits their liability. According to the agreement, they are not responsible for water damage caused by humidity or temperature fluctuations. Lock+Store offered her a mere $2,500 in compensation, which she felt was an insult considering her losses.
