How One Man’s “Life Hack” at Jurong East MRT Went Wrong

Have you ever missed a train while rushing to work or heading out with friends? It can be incredibly frustrating! But one man took it a step too far at Jurong East MRT, and his actions sparked quite a debate online.

A Risky Move for a Train

In a video shared by Sgfollowsall on November 27, the man claimed he had a “life hack” to catch a train during rush hour. He started by saying, “How to catch the train in rush hour.” His plan? To run as fast as possible and jam the doors by placing his hands between the screen doors on the platform. After about 10 seconds, he believed the doors would automatically open.

However, this risky maneuver didn’t sit well with many netizens, who criticized him for being “socially irresponsible” and “selfish.” Some pointed out that he could have simply waited for the next train instead of putting himself and others in danger.

Consequences of His Actions

The situation escalated quickly. The police confirmed that a complaint had been filed against him, and SMRT issued a warning. They reminded passengers to avoid leaning on or touching the screen doors to prevent accidents. Climbing onto the tracks is also a big no-no.

Just last year, another incident at Jurong East MRT involved a person trying to retrieve a phone from the tracks, which caused significant delays for emergency services. Such reckless behaviour can lead to serious consequences, including emergency stops by approaching trains.

Why Safety Matters

A spokesperson from SMRT emphasized that trespassing on the tracks is dangerous and could harm commuters if an emergency brake is activated. This man’s actions not only endangered himself but also disrupted the entire train service.

Instead of risking his life, he could have stayed calm and sought help from bystanders or authorities. Taking matters into his own hands was not the best choice and showed a lack of responsibility.

Final Thoughts

In a bustling city like Singapore, it’s essential to prioritize safety over convenience. Remember, missing a train is frustrating, but it’s never worth jeopardizing your life or the safety of others. Let’s all be more mindful and responsible when using our public transport system.
