Commuter Drama: A Missed Bus Leads to Reckless Behavior
Have you ever missed your bus and felt that rush of frustration? One man took it to a whole new level recently, and it has caught the attention of many Singaporeans online. A video shared by Beh Chia Lor on Facebook shows a commuter sitting in the middle of a bus bay, causing quite a scene.
What Happened?
On March 17, along the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE), this commuter was so engrossed in his smartphone that he didn’t notice his bus had arrived. Instead of flagging it down, he let it pass by. In the video, you can see the bus driver honking multiple times as the man finally decided to walk towards the curb, forcing the bus to stop several times.
Eventually, the bus came to a halt just under a metre from the curb. The post noted, “The guy was distracted by his smartphone and did not realize that the bus had arrived.”
Escalating the Situation
Frustrated by the situation, the man stood in front of the bus, blocking its way. This reckless act drew criticism from many netizens, who were quick to point out how inconsiderate his behaviour was. It’s reminiscent of a similar incident in January 2019, when a woman blocked a double-decker bus’s exit after missing her stop.
Why Should We Be Considerate?
Such actions can disrupt the flow of public transport and create unnecessary chaos. In Singapore, where we pride ourselves on being courteous, it’s essential to think about how our actions affect others, especially in crowded public spaces like bus bays and MRT stations.
It’s a reminder for all of us to stay aware and considerate. Missing a bus can be frustrating, but blocking it isn’t the solution. Let’s keep our public transport system smooth and efficient for everyone.
