After contacting the manufacturer, Tee Yih Jia, he received an email stating that their quality assurance team found “serious mould growth,” indicating a “broken cold chain.” This term refers to the critical process of keeping temperature-sensitive food products at the right temperature throughout the supply chain to ensure safety and quality.

Tee Yih Jia explained that their glutinous rice balls, which contain no preservatives, must be stored in frozen conditions to prevent spoilage. They also noted that the temperature controls during production were within acceptable limits. Interestingly, they reported no other complaints from the affected batch, suggesting that the issue might have occurred at the retail level.
