Miraculous Survival: Construction Worker Hit, Run Over, and Dragged by Bus Gets Back on His Feet

Construction Worker Escapes Serious Accident After Being Hit by Bus

A construction worker had a close call on Thursday, June 27, when he was struck by a bus and dragged underneath for a few terrifying seconds. Fortunately, he managed to stand up after the incident, which occurred around 5:20 PM at the junction of Anson Road and Palmer Road.

What Happened?

In a video shared on the Facebook group SG Road Vigilante, the worker, dressed in a bright green reflective vest and hard hat, is seen walking towards the bus lane to place a cone. As he turned back to the construction area near a bus stop, he didn’t notice an SMRT bus making a turn from his left. The bus collided with him, causing him to fall under the left front wheel and get dragged a short distance. Thankfully, he managed to free his legs just before the rear wheel passed over him.

After the bus came to a stop a few meters away, two colleagues—a man in a red reflective vest and another in a green vest—quickly rushed to help him up. Although he was clutching his back, he bravely struggled to walk to the pavement, leaning on a barricade for support.

Response from Authorities

The bus driver has since been suspended. Vincent Gay, deputy managing director of SMRT Buses, confirmed that bus service 970 was on Anson Road when the accident occurred. Fortunately, there were no passengers on board. The worker was taken to the hospital, where a dedicated care team is providing support. Gay also mentioned that the bus captain is cooperating with the police investigation. The police were alerted to the incident at around 5:25 PM.

The 33-year-old construction worker was conscious when he was taken to the hospital, while the 48-year-old bus driver is also assisting with the investigation.

Public Reaction

Social media users expressed shock and concern over the incident. Many commented on how fortunate the worker was to have survived. Criticism was directed at the bus driver for being inattentive. One Facebook user remarked that the driver seemed to be daydreaming and failed to notice the worker with the road cone.

Comments ranged from calls for the driver to be banned from operating public transport to demands for stricter penalties for reckless driving. One netizen questioned, “Was the bus driver even paying attention to the road?” Concerns were also raised for the worker’s well-being, with many expressing disbelief that he could escape without serious injuries.

Importance of Road Safety

This incident serves as a crucial reminder about the importance of road safety and awareness. It’s vital to educate everyone—especially those working on or near roads—about the need to stay vigilant to prevent accidents.

To improve safety, we could consider implementing stricter road safety measures and regulations. This might include:

– Increasing the frequency of road safety campaigns
– Providing more training and resources for workers on or near roads
– Enforcing stricter penalties for those who violate road safety rules
– Investing in better infrastructure, such as improved lighting, signage, and pedestrian crossings

Training and Safety Measures

How can we ensure that individuals working on or near roads are properly trained to prioritize safety? Regular training sessions on road safety practices could be beneficial. Additionally, providing access to proper safety gear and equipment will promote a safer working environment.

Is there a specific training program or safety measure you think would be particularly effective in this situation?
