Exciting News for Coin Collectors: Get Your LKY100 Coin!

Calling all coin enthusiasts! If you’ve been following the buzz on social media, you might have seen a TikTok video featuring a man trying to use a $10 Lee Kuan Yew coin, only to be turned away by cashiers. If you missed your chance to grab this limited-edition commemorative coin, don’t worry! The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has some great news for you.

Coin Exchange Details

From December 4 to December 31, over 700,000 LKY100 coins will be available for exchange at 142 participating bank branches across Singapore. All you need to do is bring along your NRIC, passport, or work pass. You can exchange as many coins as you like, provided the branch has enough stock.

If you applied for the coins earlier but haven’t picked them up yet, remember to do so by December 3. Any uncollected coins will be available for public walk-in exchanges after that date.

About the LKY100 Coin

Launched on May 15, the aluminium bronze coins celebrate the 100th birthday of Singapore’s founding Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew. Each coin features his portrait on one side and the Singapore Coat of Arms on the other. A total of four million coins were minted, and they are considered legal tender in Singapore, meaning you can use them for transactions.

Ensuring Fair Access for All Collectors

With so many collectors eager to get their hands on the LKY100 coin, how can we ensure everyone has a fair chance? Here are a few suggestions:

– **Lottery System**: Instead of a first-come-first-served approach, a lottery could be implemented. Interested collectors can register their interest, and a random selection can determine who gets to exchange for the coin.

– **Limit on Coin Quantity**: Setting a cap on how many coins each collector can obtain will prevent hoarding and allow more people to enjoy this limited-edition piece.

– **Clear Distribution Process**: Providing specific details about when and where the coins will be available for exchange will help collectors plan better. Transparency is key!

– **Regular Updates**: Keeping collectors informed about coin availability and any changes in the distribution process will ensure they don’t miss out.

This is a fantastic opportunity for collectors to own a piece of Singapore’s history. Don’t miss your chance to add the LKY100 coin to your collection!
