Record-Breaking Chinese New Year’s Eve: Yishun Restaurant Overwhelmed by 3,000+ Hungry Diners!

Chinese New Year Celebrations Bring Business Boom for Restaurants

This year, Chinese New Year gatherings in Singapore are back in full swing, and restaurants are buzzing with excitement! One standout is Ban Heng at Orchid Country Club in Yishun, where manager Hong Kesheng shared with Shin Min Daily News that they served over 3,000 customers on Chinese New Year Eve, which fell on February 9.

A Festive Feast for All

During a recent visit, it was clear that Ban Heng was ready for the celebrations. The dining area had been expanded to fit 150 tables, the maximum capacity for their dedicated staff. With two dining sessions that evening, the restaurant was fully booked weeks in advance, prompting Hong to increase seating to accommodate the festive crowd.

To create a lively atmosphere, Ban Heng hired getai singers to entertain diners and led them in a traditional lohei session. They also welcomed a lion dance troupe, adding to the festive spirit. Hong noted a rise in family reservations this year, with the Zhuo family making the largest booking of four tables for their reunion dinner.

Family Traditions and New Experiences

Zhuo Xiuqin, a family member, shared that she has 10 siblings. In the past, their parents would host the reunion dinner at home, but this year, they chose Ban Heng to continue their family tradition of celebrating the Year of the Dragon together.

Interestingly, among the 3,000 diners were also some foreigners experiencing Chinese New Year for the first time. Xie Xinhui mentioned that it was a special gathering for his family after the pandemic, with relatives flying in from Australia, China, and the UK. Skye, an Australian, expressed her excitement about experiencing the festive atmosphere and the warmth of Chinese hospitality.

Seizing the Opportunity: Tips for Restaurants
