Ryan Tan says he avoided going home because he was afraid of getting hurt.

Unpacking the Personal Life of Ryan Tan: A Journey of Love and Growth

Ryan Tan, co-founder of Night Owl Cinematic, recently opened up about his personal life, revealing layers of his relationship with Sylvia Chan. Their story began in high school when they started dating, with Sylvia in her sophomore year and Ryan in his junior year.

Facing the Rumours

In a candid podcast interview, Tan addressed allegations regarding his interactions with female talent at NOC. He admitted to taking some of them home, which he felt was being misconstrued. Chan, during an interview with Xiaxue last year, highlighted a pattern in Tan’s behaviour. She described how he would often express a desire to connect with people, leading to more public appearances and even riding a tractor in checkered shirts as he gained confidence.

The End of an Era

After a decade together, Tan and Chan decided to part ways in 2020. During a conversation with host Chew, Tan reflected on the stress he experienced in his marriage to Chan. He shared that returning home often felt overwhelming due to their dynamic. Tan clarified that he would drive his staff home after work to offer them comfort, especially after tough days. He explained, “Sometimes, when workers are scolded at their workplace, they will cry at home.” His intention was to provide a supportive space for them, as he preferred not to return home to more conflict.

New Beginnings with Cherylene

Now, Tan is in a relationship with Cherylene, who is eleven years his junior. He expressed admiration for her financial savvy and maturity, describing her confidence as inspiring. “It was like looking at myself in the future,” he said, recalling their first meeting when she was just 21.

Tan also addressed the age gap in their relationship, joking about comments suggesting he might be her “sugar daddy.” He chuckled, “Little did people know that I’m even more broke than she is!” He shared that Cherylene contributes to their wedding costs, and they both agree to focus on their careers before planning for marriage.

Looking Ahead

While Tan is optimistic about the future, he mentioned that wedding bells aren’t on the immediate horizon. “We have to focus on our careers right now. Once we’re done with that, then we can think about getting married,” he said. He hopes to set a timeline, envisioning a wedding when he turns 40 and Cherylene is 29, though he remains flexible depending on their financial situation.

Encouraging Openness

Tan’s willingness to share his personal journey highlights the importance of being open about one’s life experiences. How can we foster this openness in our community? Creating a supportive environment is key. This could involve forming support groups or simply encouraging conversations where individuals feel safe to share their stories. By normalizing discussions around personal experiences, we can help each other grow and connect on a deeper level.
