When Disaster Strikes: Singapore’s Operation Lionheart Steps Up

This team comprises 14 members from the Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART), four paramedic specialists, and a full-time National Serviceman doctor. Each member is highly trained in search and rescue (SAR) operations, equipped with the skills and tools necessary to locate and assist those trapped in hard-to-reach areas.
What is Operation Lionheart?
Operation Lionheart is a 79-member strong contingent that operates around the clock. DART members undergo extensive training in various rescue techniques, from urban and height rescues to medical trauma and water rescues. Their expertise also includes heli-bucket operations, ensuring they can tackle a variety of challenging situations.
Recent Missions and Achievements
In November 2022, a 16-member team from Operation Lionheart was dispatched to New South Wales, Australia, to assist with flood relief efforts. They worked tirelessly to support electrical workers in restoring power and set up flood barriers to mitigate damage in affected communities. Their quick actions prevented a shipping container from being swept away by floodwaters, showcasing their commitment to safety and community support.
Another notable mission involved a 17-member team sent to Attapeu Province following the collapse of the Xe Pian Xe Namnoy dam. This team not only participated in search and rescue operations but also included three recovery dogs and provided medical care to disaster victims.
