Residents Voice Concerns Over Noisy Chinese New Year Celebrations in Serangoon
As the vibrant sounds of Chinese New Year celebrations fill the air, some residents of Serangoon are feeling a bit overwhelmed. The festive spirit at Block 261’s coffee shop has raised eyebrows, with complaints about noise levels that some locals find excessive.
Too Much Festivity?
Guan, a resident who spoke to Shin Min Daily News, expressed her frustration over the coffee shop hiring two female performers for a recent event. While the performances typically wrap up around 10 PM, the noise was still disturbing her evening routine. “I finish my work and shut down my computer, but the sound is still there,” she shared.
Another resident, a 47-year-old interior designer, mentioned that despite closing her doors and windows, the noise was unbearable. With children needing to wake up early for school, the late-night celebrations have become a real concern for families in the area.
Vibrations and Complaints
A 46-year-old resident, who preferred to remain anonymous, described how the loud music made his floors and walls vibrate. He noted that the coffee shop had recently added three speakers to enhance the festive atmosphere. Complaints about rowdy customers have also surfaced, with some patrons getting a bit tipsy and adding to the noise.
The coffee shop manager reassured residents that such events would not take place for the rest of the year, but the frustrations linger. “Whenever we complain, someone shouts back, ‘If it’s too noisy, then stay away from a coffee shop!'” shared one frustrated resident.
Police Involvement
The police have been alerted to the situation, confirming that they received an emergency call regarding a hit-and-run incident at Block 261 Serangoon Central Drive. Although they have not made any arrests yet, investigations are ongoing to determine if two men, aged 50 and 27, were providing public entertainment without the necessary licenses.
In a similar vein, Jake Tan, a resident from Clementi, took to Facebook last year to voice his concerns about loud dance classes held on Saturday mornings. He described the participants as a “larger group of inconsiderate persons” who played music at full volume while shouting and clapping. Despite his attempts to reach out for a resolution, he received no response.
Seeking Peace and Consideration
Residents are simply hoping for a little peace and quiet during the festive season. Many feel that the coffee shop could have been more considerate by keeping the volume down, allowing everyone to enjoy their homes without disturbance.
As the celebrations continue, it’s a reminder for all of us to be mindful of our neighbors and the community around us. After all, a little consideration goes a long way in maintaining harmony in our beloved Singapore.
