On Thursday night around 9pm, Guo was passing by Junction 9 when she noticed a man steering a PMA with one hand while the other hand held onto a little girl. “The girl was partially outside the PMA, clutching her schoolbag,” Guo said, clearly concerned. To make matters worse, another boy was squeezed between the seat and the steering handle. Guo suspected they were a family of four, and if the man had loosened his grip even for a moment, the girl could have easily fallen off.

Guo expressed her worries, stating, “This is very risky. If a child falls onto the road and gets hit by a car, the consequences would be unimaginable.” She watched as the family rode along the road for about 10 minutes, noting that while she had seen two or three people on a PMA before, this was the first time she had witnessed four. Guo hopes authorities will take action to prevent such dangerous behaviour.

According to the Land Transport Authority, PMAs are not allowed on roads, and carrying passengers on them is strictly prohibited. Last December, the Active Mobility Advisory Panel recommended that only individuals with certified mobility issues should use PMAs.
