Tragic Incident in Jurong: Clarifications on Investigation and Responsible Sharing of News
A heartbreaking story has emerged from Jurong, where a father, Li Feng, is mourning the loss of his 19-year-old daughter, Li Jiaxuan. After her body was discovered at the foot of a condominium block, Li Feng collected her ashes on May 28 and shared his concerns with the media. He claimed that local authorities pressured him to cremate his daughter before an autopsy could take place.
However, the police have stepped in to clarify these claims. In a statement released on May 31, they assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway. They informed Li Feng that the findings would be reported to the coroner, and he would receive regular updates throughout the process. Notably, Li did not express any complaints during their discussions.
Setting the Record Straight
The police also addressed misinformation circulating online, particularly from posts in China that suggested no autopsy had been performed and that Li was rushed to cremate his daughter. According to the police, officers met with Li at the mortuary on May 24, the same day a post-mortem examination was conducted by a forensic pathologist from the Health Sciences Authority. After the examination, Li claimed his daughter’s body.
Regarding the funeral arrangements, the police clarified that they did not recommend hastening the cremation process. Li independently organized the cremation so he could return her remains to China when he flew back on May 25. Upon his return to Singapore on May 30, the police met with him to share preliminary investigation findings, which included CCTV footage showing no signs of foul play.
