Controversy Surrounds Romanian TikTok Creator’s Critique of Singapore
In a recent TikTok video, a Romanian OnlyFans creator known as Ucancallmehubby, or Mario, sparked outrage with his comments about Singapore. While he had previously expressed his love for the city-state, his latest clips have taken a sharp turn, leading to widespread criticism from Singaporeans.
What Did Mario Say?
Mario’s complaints began with a video where he mocked a 7-Eleven worker’s accent and mannerisms. He expressed dissatisfaction with Singapore, claiming, “this is a f****** non-smoking country” and questioned where he could smoke. He went on to criticize the cleanliness of the country, stating, “it smells like trash everywhere” and lamented the lack of perfume use among locals.
His comments didn’t stop there. He also made a sarcastic remark about the colour of the sea and rivers, stating they were “exactly blue,” and questioned the popularity of wigs in a country known for its advanced cosmetics.
Backlash from the Community
The reaction from Singaporeans was swift and severe. Many commenters on social media condemned Mario’s remarks, with some suggesting he should “go home to your country.” This backlash highlights the strong sense of national pride among Singaporeans, who are protective of their reputation and culture.
In another video, Mario expressed relief about leaving Singapore, saying, “Thank God that I am leaving Singapore tomorrow because I will have a mental collapse.” This comment only fueled further anger from viewers, who felt his criticisms were unfounded and disrespectful.
Racism and Insensitivity
Mario’s behaviour has been labelled as racist due to his mocking of the 7-Eleven cashier’s accent and gestures. Such actions perpetuate stereotypes and generalisations about Singaporeans, which many find offensive. In a TikTok stitch, another user pointedly remarked, “It seems like your attitude stinks,” further emphasizing the negative reception of Mario’s comments.
A Change of Heart?
Interestingly, Mario’s TikTok history shows a different side. In a video from May, he expressed his love for Singapore while enjoying a day out at Sentosa’s Palawan beach with friends. This stark contrast raises questions about his sudden shift in perspective.
As Singaporeans continue to voice their discontent over Mario’s latest videos, it serves as a reminder of the importance of cultural sensitivity and respect when visiting or discussing a foreign country.
